BMW 330I 2025 BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
low
I live in a suburban area of [XXX] where street lighting is sparse. At night, I depend on the rearview camera of my BMW 330i XDrive to help me park or back out of my driveway. When I shift into reverse, the view within the green pathway is acceptable, but visibility outside this area is quite poor, making it hard to clearly see or spot any objects or animals near my car, which raises safety concerns. This limited visibility occupies nearly 65% of the vehicle’s screen space, complicating the detection of nearby objects. I own two BMW 330i XDrive vehicles, and their rearview cameras behave very differently at night—one delivers a clear image, while the other does not. I brought the car to the dealer and reached out to BMW Customer Service, but despite providing photo evidence and leaving the car at the dealer for two weeks, they found no problems. I asked to speak with BMW engineers about the issue, but was refused, being told that this was the extent of their troubleshooting. This problem isn’t exclusive to the 330i XDrive; other BMW models appear to have the same issue. I found similar complaints on online forums, though the only explanation offered attributes it to the car’s light exterior paint. Regardless of the car's exterior paint, I should be able to safely reverse my car while I park or while I get out of the driveway.
